The square is named after the old market hall that used to stand in the centre of the square. The hall is gone today, but the square is still a popular gathering place for locals and tourists alike. It’s one of the best things to do on the weekend in Beaune in Burgundy.

If you’re travelling by air, the closest airport to Beaune is Dijon-Bourgogne Airport, about a 40-minute drive away.
Alternatively, you can fly into Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport or Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, which offer more international connections, and then take a train (search Trainline website for best deals) or drive to Beaune.
