The building is a beautiful example of Burgundian Gothic architecture, with its colourful glazed-tile roof, ornate spires, and intricate stonework.
Today, the Hospices de Beaune serves as a museum that showcases the history of Beaune and its wine industry.
It’s also famous for its annual wine auction, which takes place on the third Sunday in November and attracts wine lovers worldwide. The auction raises money for local charities and highlights the Burgundy wine season.
Beaune is located in the heart of Burgundy’s wine country, and visitors can take a wine tour of the region to learn more about the area’s famous wines.

If you’re travelling by air, the closest airport to Beaune is Dijon-Bourgogne Airport, about a 40-minute drive away.
Alternatively, you can fly into Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport or Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, which offer more international connections, and then take a train (search Trainline website for best deals) or drive to Beaune.
You can also reach Beaune in Burgundy by train if you’re already in France. There are several direct trains from Paris to Beaune daily, and the journey takes around 2.5 hours.
Other nearby cities like Dijon and Lyon have direct train connections to Beaune.
Once you arrive in Beaune, exploring the town on foot or by bike is easy. The town centre is compact, and most of the major attractions are within walking distance of each other.
