It used to be one of the most difficult countries in the world to visit just a few years ago, but it is now open for tourism. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is also the spiritual home and birthplace of Islam. For Muslim travellers, Mecca and Medina represent the most sacred destinations there is. The city holds the holiest site in all Islam, the Masjid al-Haram (‘Sacred Mosque’), and was declared a site of pilgrimage by the Prophet Muhammad in 630.
