Uruguay has always been a little forgotten, perhaps because of its size, being the smallest country in South America. Or, perhaps it is due to its location being between Argentine and Brazil, both large countries on the South American traveller’s circuit. It seems that lately, things may be changing. Uruguay is getting the recognition it deserves as the stable, progressive, very safe, and culturally classy country that it is. Travel here to get a taste of the real South American experiences, not the oversold ones they sell to tourists only here for a day or two.
Cosmopolitan Montevideo is definitely worth checking out but don’t forget about some of those cool little cow-boy towns in-between.
There are opportunities for visiting hot springs, going horse riding, or wildlife watching in this charming country. A stop in Colonia should be on your itinerary and if you’re up for it, stop by Punta del Este for the party of your life.
