About Democratic Republic of Congo
The recent history of the Democratic Republic of Congo has been one of corruption and civil war. A large country with an incredible amount of natural resources and, until recently, has been at the centre of “Africa’s world war”, with civilians suffering the result. The war claimed over five million lives, either as a direct result of fighting or because of disease and malnutrition. The good news for any visitors is that Virunga National Park has now reopened. So if you wish to see the Mountain Gorillas or Nyiragongo Volcano with its stunning Lava Lake, now is the time to go.
