Flights – How to Get to the Solomon Islands
If you’re flying from Australia, then your best option is to book a direct flight from Brisbane to Honiara with Solomon Airlines. You will need to book your additional domestic flights to either Gizo or Munda airport.
For visitors travelling to the Solomon Islands from outside this region, either Fiji or Brisbane offers the best flight connections.

Honiara – Where to Stay in Solomon Islands’ capital city
Honiara is the capital of the Solomon Islands, and it’s most likely that your flight will arrive here.
Located on Guadalcanal Island, Honiara is a good base to spend a night before and after your connecting domestic flight to the stunning outer islands.

Gizo – An Excellent Choice for Where to Stay in Solomon Islands
Solomon Airlines operate domestic flights from Honiara to Gizo, journey time is around 1.5 hr. Check flight deals here.
The views of the turquoise lagoons below are stunning from the air.
Gizo Island is especially popular with surfers and divers; the marine life and WWII shipwrecks are spectacular.
‘Toa Maru’, one of the best wreck dives in the area, is located just a few minutes from Gizo. The shipwreck, measuring 130 m long and at a depth of 37m below the surface is a fascinating place to explore artifacts.
Snorkelling is excellent in Gizo too, with some of the best snorkelling spots found at Njari Island.
Arriving at Gizo Airport
Gizo airport is tiny. Just a runway and a small building for check-in. It’s recommended that you request a boat transfer or pick-up at the time of confirming your accommodation in Gizo. This ensures you will have a boat transfer at Gizo airport to transfer you to your accommodation provider.

Oravae Cottages
Escape to your very own paradise in Gizo and take your choice from two rustic open-plan wooden bungalows, both situated on this small, yet stunning island. Comfortable, yet simple bungalows are built using local driftwood and supplies, which adds to the charm.
Enjoy panoramic views of turquoise water visually teeming with marine life, it feels like peering into a colossal aquarium from the surface; the water is so clear.

Urilolo Lodge
Situated in Saeragi, a humble little village on the northern point of Gizo Island, Urilolo Lodge accommodation is set on a stunning curved beach.
Your host and the welcoming locals in the village are what will undoubtedly make your stay even more memorable. And, if you’re travelling on a budget, this property will be a little easier on your wallet.
Accommodation is a simple cabin set right on the beach. You have the choice to self-cater (recommend you pick up food supplies on arrival in Gizo before making your way here), or have your meals prepared by your hosts for a very fair price. We’d recommend this option, as the food in the Solomon Islands was fantastic.

Munda – A Top Choice for Where to stay in Solomon Islands
Munda is a very popular island for scuba divers. Munda Airport receives weekly domestic flights from Honiara and Gizo. Check domestic flight deals here.
