Laurel Mississippi things to do in laurel ms

Laurel has become famous thanks to the show Home Town. This cute town is a must see and to help you plan what to do in Laurel MS, I have written this detailed blog on the best things to do in Laurel.

So let’s get started.

The Best things to do in Laurel MS:

1. The street charm of Laurel downtown

Ok, nothing makes you fall in love with Laurel more than its gorgeous downtown. Begin at Laurel Welcome Centre where you can grab a map and get some tips and then just hit the main street and explore.

The locals in the shops seem to embody the warm southern hospitality we have all heard about. The Home Town show has changed a lot for this small town and naturally, many residents might have liked the town tourist-free when it was just a quaint, historic town in Jones County.

But for small shop owners, it’s perfect and it’s great for business.

2. Lauren Rogers Museum of Art

You cannot go to Laurel and not visit the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art. It is one the best things to do in Laurel MS and you don’t have to be an art lover to appreciate it.

Here you’ll find American art, European art, and even some cool Japanese woodblock prints and Native American baskets. The staff is very friendly and there is plenty of information. And the gift shop has some fun things for kids and other souvenirs.

It’s free to visit but donations are welcome. And they offer walking tours of the town as well. NOTE: Closed on Mondays.

3. Scotsman General Store

This is another must-visit in Laurel. Everything in this store is US-made. Yes! Everything.

You can shop for jeans, flannel, and boots, all created to last the season. And make sure you pick up one of the old-school sodas. It’s like stepping back in time.

The woodshop is really where it’s at. You can watch the team and their woodworking skills that seem to captivate the spirit of Laurel. This is one of the best things to do in Laurel MS with family as well.

Oh, and their Woodshed Wisdom signs make for the perfect gift and are one-of-a-kind. Check out their candy selection as well.

4. Landrum’s Homestead and Village

Another attraction to put on your list is Landrum’s Homestead and Village. The educational tour offered here will take you back to the 1800s and is self-guided.

There are 75 buildings spread across 30 acres and include a maze, shooting range, mystery house, and a really lovely gift shop.

It’s open from Thursday until Sunday from 9 am until 4 pm and tickets are $12 per person.

If you prefer to have this place to yourself, consider visiting on Thursday. The weekend is usually busier and you might have more things to do here.

5. Laurel Little Theatre

This small theatre was originally an old movie house which is now almost 100 years old. Another reason to love Laurel.

The theatre has been nicely restored and today it hosts several productions a year – musicals, comedies even dramas. Check if something is running when you visit Laurel and don’t miss a show. All you need to do is simply call and reserve a seat.

You will then pay once you arrive. This is one of the best things to do at night in Laurel, MS.

This is one of the oldest shopping centres in Laurel and it has been operating since 1901. Definitely, one of the recommended things to do in Laurel MS for any Home Town fans.

This new version of Laurel Mercantile was reimagined by Ben and Erin Napier and friends. They bear Ben and Erin’s signature collection of goods, Erin’s artwork, and a variety of other great American-made products.

It’s fun to just come and browse but chances are you will want to redecorate your house.
