A popular region for new teachers. Salaries are quite good in countries like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and China, and the cost of living can be very low.

Teachers can earn between USD $2,000-$3,000 per month teaching in Taiwan, South Korea, China and Japan.

Other regions such as Cambodia, Vietnam, Turkey, and Thailand offer a lower salary, anywhere between $800-$2,000.

Once you’ve worked as a teacher for 1-2 years and gained some experience in the job, many teachers seek work in higher-paying countries.

The Middle East is an attractive region to teach, with jobs paying salaries around $3500 – $4200 per month. The requirements are more strict in this region, but it’s certainly something to aspire to once you get some experience behind you.

Latin America

Teachers with some knowledge of Spanish may choose to teach here to build on their skills or more easily communicate when not working.

The cost of living in countries in Latin America makes this region attractive too. The average salary across countries in Latin America ranges from USD $600 – $1200 per month.


Qualifications to teach in Europe may be a bit tougher than other parts of the world. A bachelor’s degree is usually required to secure a job and often previous teaching experience is a requirement.

European nationals are often preferred for teaching jobs in Western Europe.
