Welcome to India! Delhi, strategically located on the west bank of the Yamuna River between the Himalayas and the Aravalli Hills, serves as the gateway to the fertile Ganges plain. According to Indian folklore, the city has been inhabited since 2500 BC, beginning with Indraprastha, the first of nine historical cities. The seventh city, Shahjahanabad or Old Delhi, was established in 1638 when the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan moved his capital back to Delhi from Agra. Shahjahanabad was meticulously planned with wide roads, residential areas, and bustling markets. Chandni Chowk, now considered Asia’s busiest street, was the main thoroughfare. Literally translated as “Silver Street,” this vibrant market area in Old Delhi is renowned for its new and antique gold and silver jewelry, crafted by artisans whose ancestors served the emperor.

Your adventure begins with an important welcome meeting at 6pm where you’ll meet your local leader and fellow travellers. Afterwards, celebrate the start of a memorable food adventure with a short stroll to a local restaurant.

Here you’ll enjoy your first taste of North Indian cuisine over a delicious (and completely vegetarian) thali feast. A thali is an assortment of small dishes put together on one platter – the perfect way to sample a range of flavours.
