There’s something magical about Dubrovnik that keeps drawing me back, no matter how many times I visit.
I hope this 2 days in Dubrovnik itinerary will help you discover the city’s beauty.

I first visited Dubrovnik fifteen years ago, and since I work as a tour leader in Europe, I’ve returned many times, watching it become one of the most visited cities in Europe.
There’s a reason for it. Dubrovnik is undoubtedly one of the most popular places in Croatia to visit.
Between the Old Town’s limestone-paved streets and the Adriatic’s endless blue, Dubrovnik holds an irresistible charm. It’s truly one of a kind, and despite the summer crowds, you’ll fall in love with it.
If you want to see the city like a local (and avoid some tourist pitfalls), here’s my 2 days in Dubrovnik itinerary to help you experience the best of Dubrovnik, with a few insider tips.
Dubrovnik’s Old Town is a marvel, with its ancient walls, narrow alleys, and glistening sea views.
No matter how many times I wander these streets, there’s always something new to notice—a small cute street, a quiet courtyard, or a new quaint cafe.
But Dubrovnik isn’t just its Old Town. Head outside the walls, and you’ll find beautiful beaches, scenic views from Mount Srđ, and quieter neighbourhoods that reveal even more of the city’s character.
Many of the best hotels are located in Lapad, just a short bus ride away. Here you’ll find nice beaches with sunset views and excellent (and more affordable) restaurants.
I prefer to stay in the Lapad area rather than the old town as it is easily accessible by public bus or Uber.
For the most enjoyable experience, visit Dubrovnik in late spring (April -May) or early autumn (September – October).
The weather is warm but not too hot, and the crowds are much more manageable than in peak summer, although September is now very busy with cruise ships.
Here’s a quick guide to Dubrovnik’s average seasonal temperatures:
Dubrovnik enjoys a mild, coastal climate with warm summers and mild winters.
Morning
Guided Walking Tour of Old Town
I suggest starting your day with a guided walking tour of the Old Town as early as possible.
Begin at the iconic Pile Gate and join a tour to get the background on landmarks like Onofrio’s Fountain, Rector’s Palace, and the Franciscan Monastery and beyond.
You can of course get a map of Dubrovnik and simply explore on your own but a guided tour will give you a better insight into the Old city of Dubrovnik, it’s history and for those who are fans of Games of Thrones it usually includes a few places where the series were filmed.
If you are a fan of this popular series, then this top-rated Game of Thrones City Walking Tour is recommended.
Midday
Lunch at a Seafood Spot (Not Right on Stradun)
After your city tour, treat yourself to seafood at a more hidden spot. I recommend heading up to a street called Prijeko Ul which runs parallel with Stradun, the main street.
Just take any of the small streets up the stairs up and you will find many great restaurants here. I recommend Konoba Mediterra for some delicious seafood.
If you are after a simple lunch, as maybe you had a big breakfast buffet at your hotel, you might find Holy Burek in the Old Town and try the typical Balkan pastry filled with meat or cheese.
You can then also enjoy a scoop of gelato. There are some excellent gelato shops in the Old Town.
I love the newly opened Peppino’s closer to Ploce gate.
Drink at the famous Buza Bar
Visiting Buza Bar in the early afternoon is one of the best experiences you can have in Dubrovnik. Tucked along the cliffs outside the city walls, this iconic bar is known for its stunning, unrestricted views over the Adriatic Sea.
The entrance is discreet, marked by a small sign, and you’ll have to navigate through a narrow alley to find the hidden gate. It’s best to use your google maps, here is the location.
Arriving in the early afternoon gives you a peaceful vibe with just the right amount of sunshine and fewer crowds than later in the day.
It’s the perfect time to sip on a refreshing drink, feel the ocean breeze, and perhaps even take a dip in the water below if you feel adventurous!
Afternoon
Take the Cable Car Up to Mount Srđ
This is one of those views that you can’t miss. The cable car ride up Mount Srđ gives you the best aerial view of Dubrovnik and the Adriatic, stretching out to nearby islands.
At the top, visit Fort Imperial to learn more about Dubrovnik’s modern history, especially its defense during the Homeland War.
The Cable Car is not part of the Dubrovnik Pass, so you will need to pay for the ticket, the price is 27 euros. You can purchase it online the official website here.
Dubrovnik Cable Car operates only during the months of March until the end of October. Check the website for opening hours.
Evening
Dinner With a Sunset View
After descending from Mount Srđ, a sunset dinner awaits. If you’re still on the mountain, Panorama Restaurant serves great Mediterranean cuisine with the city glowing below you. Depending on the season, sunset might be late or early so you can plan it accordingly.
Back in the Old Town, take a detour through quieter alleys and find a cosy konoba (local tavern) for an enjoyable meal.
When in Dubrovnik, don’t miss these authentic dishes:
Each dish captures the essence of Dubrovnik’s coastal cuisine and most restaurants will serve a version of it.

Early Morning
Walk Dubrovnik’s City Walls
Start your second day with an early walk along the city walls to avoid the midday heat. It’s the ultimate way to see the Old Town from above, with views over the sea and the rooftops.
Dubrovnik City walls are a must-do activity during your 2 days in Dubrovnik, so even if you decide to change your itinerary, make sure you climb the walls.
Shaped mostly by the 13th century, the 1940-metre walls grew until 1660, adding fortresses, towers, bastions, and even drawbridges. Reaching up to 25 metres high, these thick stone walls protected Dubrovnik from all sides.
In the soft morning light, with fewer people around, you can fully take in the panoramic views of the Adriatic and the red rooftops below, feeling Dubrovnik’s charm and resilience come to life
If you’re up for it, walk the full circuit—it’s about 1.5 to 2 hours and covers highlights like Minčeta Tower and Fort Bokar.
Midday
Explore Gundulić Square Market
Dubrovnik’s market scene is small but charming. At Gundulić Square, find vendors selling fresh produce, lavender, olive oil, and traditional Croatian snacks.
Buy some fruit for a quick snack, and look for local delicacies like dried figs or candied orange peel.
If you happen to be here at midday you can witness a local man who feeds pigeons of the city here every day at noon. It’s a spectacle of hundreds of pigeons flying into the square and waiting for the man to bring a bucket of seeds.
Beach Time at Banje Beach
No visit to Dubrovnik is complete without a dip in the Adriatic.
Banje Beach, just outside the Old Town, is the perfect spot to unwind. The views of Lokrum Island and the Old Town walls from the water are unbeatable.
You can also rent a sun lounge or try watersports here.
Alternatively, you could do a boat tour from the harbour of Dubrovnik Old City to Lokrum Island.
Just a 15-minute ferry ride from the Old Town port, Lokrum offers an easy escape from Dubrovnik’s busy streets, letting you relax among lush greenery, botanical gardens, and quiet walking trails. Or join the organised boat tours to Lokrum and around.
The island is steeped in history, with a 12th-century Benedictine monastery, fort ruins, and even a “Dead Sea” saltwater lake perfect for a calm swim. Wildlife lovers will enjoy the freely roaming peacocks and bunnies, adding to Lokrum’s charm.
Think swimming spots, rocky beaches, and scenic picnic areas.
Afternoon
Visit the Old Pharmacy and Franciscan Monastery
With your Dubrovnik City Card, you’ll have access to the Franciscan Monastery, home to one of Europe’s oldest functioning pharmacies.
The monastery itself is beautiful, and the pharmacy museum has some interesting ancient tools and remedies. It’s a quiet spot to escape the afternoon crowds for a little while.
Evening
Here are three dinner recommendations in Dubrovnik’s Old Town, catering to different budgets:
Budget Option: Barba
For a quick, affordable seafood fix, Barba is the spot! This casual eatery serves fresh Adriatic-inspired street food like fish sandwiches, octopus burgers, and truffle fries. Perfect for budget-conscious travellers.
Mid-Range Option: Gradska Kavana Arsenal
Located along the Old Town harbour, Gradska Kavana Arsenal offers delicious Croatian dishes with beautiful Adriatic views. Enjoy seafood risotto or grilled fish on the terrace; it’s particularly lovely at sunset and a firm local favourite.
Fine Dining Experience: 360° Dubrovnik
For a truly luxurious evening, 360° Dubrovnik provides a Michelin-starred experience with a view.
Located along the city walls, this restaurant serves elevated Mediterranean and Croatian dishes in an unforgettable setting. The tasting menu and wine pairings showcase fresh, local ingredients with creative flair, making it the ultimate splurge for a special night out. Make sure you pre-book online.

Two days in Dubrovnik is just enough to capture its unique charm, from wandering the historic Old Town and walking the city walls to enjoying breathtaking Adriatic views.
In two days, you can see the major highlights, indulge in some local seafood, and soak up the city’s enchanting atmosphere.
However, staying three days opens up options for incredible day trips that allow you to explore even more of the region.
On your third day, consider venturing out to Korčula, a beautiful island with medieval streets and a relaxed vibe; Split, where you can explore Diocletian’s Palace and lively waterfront; Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, known for its iconic Stari Most bridge and rich cultural blend; or Ston, famous for its ancient walls, salt pans, and some of the freshest oysters in Croatia.
Adding a day trip makes for a more enriching experience, showcasing the diversity and beauty beyond Dubrovnik.
Just below, I’ve included some of the best day trips from Dubrovnik:
When deciding where to stay in Dubrovnik, it’s worth considering that while the Old Town is incredibly scenic, most accommodations here are apartments rather than traditional hotels, and the narrow streets are lined with steep stairs that can be challenging to navigate with luggage.
For a comfortable stay, consider basing yourself in accommodations in the Lapad area.
Just a short bus ride from the Old Town, Lapad offers a range of hotels, beach access, and a more relaxed vibe with fewer crowds, making it ideal for unwinding after a day of sightseeing.
Here are some great options in different categories:
Hotel Ivka is a budget-friendly choice with easy access to public transportation.
Hotel Kompas Dubrovnik – A stylish, mid-range hotel with stunning sea views and a modern design.
Valamar Lacroma Dubrovnik Hotel – A family-friendly option with spacious rooms, pools, and wellness facilities.
Hotel More is a luxurious hotel known for its cliffside views and the unique Cave Bar More.
Hotel Dubrovnik Palace – A five-star option offering high-end amenities, beautiful Adriatic views, and direct beach access.
