On this food tour you will learn about the history of italian cuisine and how it evolved through the ages. we’ll also explain why the food is so different and unique in each region of italy. And, of course, we will taste some important staples of the italian diet along with having accompanying wines!
A lot of Rome’s food has Jewish roots. What better way to begin than in the Jewish Quarter, an often missed but beautiful area? Before we sit down to eat we will partake in a quick tour of the area.
After your newfound understanding of the traditions of Rome and how the Jews apply, we will sample some customary fried fare done the Roman and Jewish way to include suppli, Jewish style fried artichokes and baccalà… with some bubbly!
Afterwards we’ll move on to our next stop where we’ll try what most people refer to as the “original” pizza- the Neapolitan style- and learn why it is not!
Then it’s time to try some pasta dishes done “alla Romana”.
Afterwards, we’ll walk to the vicinity of the Pantheon where we’ll try Roman dishes at a restaurant that has been around for three generations. Here we’ll have a couple of different types of pasta dishes, you’ll learn their origins and why they are so coveted by Romans even today. Our last stop is for gelato!
